Poker betting II

Calling and checking are two very important actions that a player may chose from when it is his turn to act in course of a poker game. When a player decides to call, it means that he is ready to match the amount that is being staked or has been raised. A round of betting in poker concludes when all the players, actively participating in the game, have wagered an equal amount of dough or when none of the opponents have called the bet or raise proposed by a player which would mean that the player wins the pot. In poker, sometimes there is a condition that arises called overcalling. This happens when a particular bet is called a second time or more than that. When a player makes a call after already contributing to the pot, it is also a case of overcalling. Cold calling is that situation in a game where a player has not yet put any dough in the pot and ends up calling a raise. If someone intends to slow play, he often calls instead of raising, a condition which is described as smooth calling. To call even without having the best hand is said to be a crying call.

Checking in poker happens when a player decides not to open the betting round and indicates his wish by tapping the table. If no other players in the table open, this is the condition of the game where the bet amount is still zero and checking means calling the current bet amount. So, when a player opts to check, it means he is refusing to open the bet but is not quitting the game and may call or raise in the same round if someone lese opens. In games of blind wagers, a player often does not check but if after staking a big blind he does not exercise the option to raise, it is a case of checking. In case all participating players check, the round ends without any difference to the pot and is called a free round.
