The system of betting in poker games is very simple. Players are required to act in turn in the clockwise fashion and acting out of turn is taken care to avoid as this can lead to complication in the game by adversely influencing the game of other players. It is a binding rule that either a player must verbally commit himself or with some gesture or a more definite action state his intention of how he wants to act when it is his turn to do so. This is because players should not go back on their intended action after observing how others have chosen to act. The courses open to players when it is their turn to act include folding, checking or betting. In some poker games folding needs to follow a specific regulation, such as in stud poker the player who folds has to show he is surrendering by turning his face up cards down. Checking can be done by tapping the table whereas to bet the gambler has to put forward the amount of chips he is wagering. It is not allowed to put the chips directly in the pot as the bet size cannot be verified by the others in that case.
Opening betting in a poker game means a player lays the initial wager and opening the pot. However in those variants of poker games where blind wagers have to be put, the blind bet is the opening bet. Sometimes, a game of poker will set how much dough is allowed to constitute as opening bet amount whereas in some other games, a player must have certain cards in his hands if he wishes to open betting.
